Wildflower Award For State Road 50

Awards season is in full bloom! (Or at least the wildflowers are…)

This past spring, District Seven was the recent recepient of a prestigious Florida Federation of Garden Clubs (FFGC)  2014 Paths of Sunshine Award for the wildflowers along SR-50 near the Withlacoochee Trail overpass in Hernando County. The Brooksville Operations Center and Operations Engineer Jo Ellyn Guthrie was presented with the award which “recognizes Roadside Maintenance Units, whose workers, through their superior efforts and with special pride in their work, have improved, enhanced, and added visual quality and beauty to Florida’s Interstates, US, and State Highways while emphasizing the beneficial use of Florida native shrubs, trees and wildflowers on State roadsides.”

The Paths of Sunshine award recognizes and honors Ella P. Wood, Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. (FFGC) President, 1979-1981 for her exemplary service and special contributions to her community and FFGC.  Mrs. Wood’s son John Wood now serves in the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 41 in Winter Haven. An endowment funded by the family supports the award program.

A big congratulations goes out to all involved with this award-winning project!
