Bayway Bridge Opens With A Bash

On Friday, October 17, the District Seven office and the local communities of St. Petersburg and St. Pete Beach celebrated the completion of the Pinellas Bayway Bridge (SR 682) with the “Bayway Bridge Bash and 5K Run.” Highlighted by a sunset 5K run over the new bridge which concluded on St. Pete Beach, the event first kicked off in the afternoon with a pool party and runner packet pick-up hosted by the Isla Del Sol community.

The Bayway Bash was a great opportunity for the community to come out, celebrate the completion of the project and express their excitement about the long-awaited bridge. “I’ve lived here since 1996, and I’m so happy to have our new bridge!” “I just moved here three months ago and I am just overjoyed with this new bridge.” “Great job by everyone involved!” and “Thank You, FDOT!” were just a few of the praises heard around the Bayway Bridge Bash.

Local elected officials were also on hand to take part in the lightning of the bridge ceremony, including United States Congressman David Jolly (13th District).

The $41 million project features four-lane high level fixed bridges which replace a two lane bascule bridge that was built in 1962.
